    Ingredients

    Amounts for
    • 460g minced beef
    • 460g Italian sausage, casings removed
    • 70g panko breadcrumbs
    • 50g Parmesan, grated
    • 2 eggs, beaten
    • 65ml whole milk
    • 1 onion, finely diced
    • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
    • 2 tbsp olive oil
    • 2 tbsp tomato puree
    • 790g tinned tomatoes, crushed
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 600g spaghetti, dried

    Method

    1. Heat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C). Line a baking tray with parchment.

    2. In a large bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan, and season well with garlic granules, onion powder and dried Italian herbs. Add the beaten egg and whole milk and stir to a paste.

    3. Add the minced beef and Italian sausage. Mix with your hands until just combined: do not overwork it. Season with salt and pepper.

    4. Roll into balls roughly the size of a golf ball and space them out on the tray. Bake for 20 minutes, until browned and cooked through.

    5. Meanwhile, warm the olive oil in a wide pan over medium heat. Soften the diced onion for 5 minutes, then add the minced garlic and tomato puree and cook for another minute.

    6. Pour in the tinned tomatoes, season with dried basil and oregano, add the sugar if using, and season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes until thickened.

    7. Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil and cook the spaghetti to the packet timing. Drain.

    8. Slide the baked meatballs into the marinara and simmer together for 5 minutes. Serve over the spaghetti.
